Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Championship in 882 Days
Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents his first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.
Victory also means Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event in the past months.
The player's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his ability to compete at the elite level was over.
However the player has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an improved serve.
He came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.
Both players exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour title, gained dominance to create a final set.
The opponent rescued four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.
Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
