Tetris Couldn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That
Whenever a prominent honors show nears, there’s always a clamor to include additional classifications to recognize underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.
A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.
Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything in 2014
- Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
- Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games globally maintaining this status for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
